Exclusive Arkansas PBS debate series begins Monday

Debates featuring candidates in four Congressional District races to livestream, broadcast daily Oct. 7-10

CONWAY, Ark. (Arkansas PBS) — “Election 2024: Arkansas PBS Debates,” featuring 10 candidates in four races, will livestream at myarpbs.org/elections and air live on Arkansas PBS daily Oct. 7-10. Debates will also be rebroadcast during primetime beginning Oct. 7.

In advance of debate week, “Arkansas Week,” Arkansas PBS’s flagship public affairs program, will examine proposed ballot initiatives on Friday, Oct. 4, at 7:30 p.m. Currently there are three ballot proposals scheduled to appear on the ballot: Issue 1 – Lottery Proceeds for Scholarships; Issue 2 – Repealing Casino License & Requiring Local Vote; and Issue 3 – Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment. Joining the conversation will be Stacey McCullough and Kristin Netterstrom Higgins of the Public Policy Center, UA System Division of Agriculture.

Each debate will feature questions from a panel of journalists with moderator Steve Barnes. All debates will be held at the Arkansas PBS studios in Conway. More information is available at myarpbs.org/elections.

The following candidates have committed to participating in Arkansas PBS’s debates:

  • U.S. Congressional District 1 – Incumbent Rick Crawford (R), Rodney Govens (D) and Steve Parsons (L). The​​ debate will livestream and air Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m. and repeat at 7 p.m.
  • U.S. Congressional District 2 – Incumbent French Hill (R) and Marcus Jones (D). The debate will livestream and air Monday, Oct. 7, at 2 p.m. and repeat at 7 p.m.
  • U.S. Congressional District 3 – Caitlin Draper (D), Bobby Wilson (L) and incumbent Steve Womack (R). The debate will livestream and air Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 1 p.m. and repeat Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m.
  • U.S. Congressional District 4 – Risie Howard (D) and incumbent Bruce Westerman (R). The debate will livestream and air Thursday, Oct. 10, at 2 p.m. and repeat at 7 p.m.

Then, on Friday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m., “Arkansas Week” will feature candidates in the Arkansas Treasurer of State race. John Pagan (D), Michael Pakko (L) and Secretary of State John Thurston (R) have all been invited to participate.\

Debates will repeat Sunday, Nov. 3, from noon to 4 p.m.
