Arkansas PBS, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art to host special screening of Bentonville episodes Jan. 11
CONWAY, Ark. (Arkansas PBS) — PBS’s most-watched ongoing series “Antiques Roadshow” will premiere its 29th season on Monday, Jan. 6, at 7 p.m. with a first-time stop in Bentonville, Arkansas. Three episodes filmed at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art will air Jan. 6, 13 and 20.
“Working with Arkansas PBS to bring ‘Antiques Roadshow’ to Bentonville this past May was a highlight of our tour,” Executive Producer Marsha Bemko said. “Even the rainy day couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm of guests or our amazement at some of the discoveries made, including a 1960 Elvis Presley-signed ice cream cone display and the charming story of the guest’s father’s unusual encounter with the superstar!”
To celebrate the premiere, Arkansas PBS and Crystal Bridges will host a free screening event featuring highlights from all three episodes Saturday, Jan. 11, at 3 p.m. in the museum’s Great Hall. The event is open to the public with registration required at myarpbs.org/events.
Special guests will include:
- Sam Farrell, senior producer, “Antiques Roadshow.”
- Nigel Freeman, appraiser, “Antiques Roadshow.”
- Kim Teehee, Cherokee Nation representative.
- Austen Barron Bailly, chief curator, Crystal Bridges and The Momentary.
The first 100 attendees to the event will receive free admission to Crystal Bridges’ special exhibition “Knowing the West,” the first major traveling exhibition to embrace the American West as more inclusive, complex and reflective of the diverse peoples who contributed to art and life there.
The following three episodes were produced from the Bentonville tour stop:
- “Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Hour 1,” premiering Jan. 6 – “Roadshow’s” all-new season 29 kicks off with treasures that include a 1976 Marvel UK Super Spider-Man #175 cover art, a 1926 Rogers Hornsby sterling trophy, and Winslow Homer watercolors, ca. 1879. One is between $180,000 to $320,000!
- “Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Hour 2,” premiering Jan. 13 – “Antiques Roadshow” searches for amazing treasures in Arkansas including an Elvis Presley-signed ice cream display, an Arnold Palmer-engraved golf club, ca. 1980, and a Marvel Silver Age comics collection. One find is $60,000 to $90,000!
- “Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Hour 3,” premiering Jan. 20 – Head to bustling Bentonville for “Roadshow” finds at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art including an 1857 Queen’s Cup ascot race trophy, a 1956 Curta calculator type II and an Art Deco sapphire & platinum ring.
