Conversation to focus on wellbeing for women
CONWAY, Ark. (Arkansas PBS) — As part of its Arkansas Live initiative, Arkansas PBS will livestream Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art’s sold-out event “An Evening With Jane Fonda and Mary Steenburgen” Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 6 p.m. at myarpbs.org/arkansasliveplaylist.
This conversation between Academy Award-winning actor, author and activist Jane Fonda, and songwriter, Golden Globe and Academy Award-winning actor and native Arkansan Mary Steenburgen will center on wellbeing for women, highlighting Fonda and Steenburgen’s personal wellness journeys, climate work and advocacy for holistic wellbeing. Crystal Bridges board chairperson Olivia Walton will moderate the conversation.
Fonda is a two-time Academy Award-winning actor (Best Actress in 1971 for “Klute” and in 1978 for “Coming Home”), producer, author, activist and fitness guru. Her career has spanned over 50 years, accumulating a body of film work that includes more than 50 films and significant contributions to political causes such as women’s rights, Native Americans’ rights and environmental protection. She is a seven-time Golden Globe winner and was honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award in 2021. She accepted The Harry Belafonte Voices for Social Justice Award at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival. Most recently, in April 2024, Fonda accepted the TIME Magazine Earth Award.
Academy Award- and Golden Globe-winning actor Steenburgen is a Hollywood veteran, having appeared in countless roles on the big and small screen. Steenburgen is known for her Oscar-nominated work in “Melvin and Howard” in addition to unforgettable roles in “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape,” “Stepbrothers,” and television shows such as FOX’s critically acclaimed comedy series “The Last Man on Earth,” FX’s “Justified,” Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black” and HBO’s “Togetherness” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
In addition to her work in film and television, Steenburgen is an award-winning songwriter for Universal Music Publishing Group and has collaborated with acclaimed artists in Nashville and Los Angeles. She was also one of four native Arkansans recently featured in the national PBS series “Southern Storytellers.”

About Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art
The mission of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is to welcome all to celebrate the American spirit in a setting that unites the power of art with the beauty of nature. Since opening in 2011, the museum has welcomed more than 12.2 million visitors across its spaces, with no cost for admission. Crystal Bridges was founded in 2005 as a nonprofit charitable organization by arts patron and philanthropist Alice Walton. The collection spans five centuries of American masterworks from early American to current day and is enhanced by temporary exhibitions. The museum is nestled on 120 acres of Ozark landscape and was designed by world-renowned architect Moshe Safdie. A rare Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house was preserved and relocated to the museum grounds in 2015. Some 418,375 school children have participated in the Willard and Pat Walker School Visit program, which provides educational experiences for school groups at no cost to the schools. In February 2020, the museum opened the Momentary in Downtown Bentonville (507 SE E Street), conceived as a platform for the art, food and music of our time.
