Television Producer

Arkansas PBS Education production team is looking for someone passionate about education-focused storytelling and video production to be our new Television Producer responsible for production design. As part of a team, the successful candidate will be someone who can elevate K12 educational content to improve student engagement and learning. They will work collaboratively with a cross-sectional team of producers and educators to develop, create, film, and edit a wide variety of content, including K12 safety issues such as anti-bullying, teen suicide, child maltreatment, education-focused documentaries, and K12 kids programming. This person will develop studio and on-location production design, scripting, audition and hire talent, and work collaboratively with licensed K12 educators to create content for teacher professional development through various platforms, including digital, social, and broadcast media. In addition to the duties described above, this position will produce long-form video content for professional development courses for Arkansas teachers. The Producer in Education collaborates with educators to learn specialized content and bring creative production design to critical educational concepts. They will plan the production process through storyboards, production design, preliminary script, and/or production outline. They will implement storytelling techniques that are appropriate for the assigned content. This includes a variety of formats, such as documentaries, interviews, panel discussions, narrative scenarios, and green screen production. The goal is to maximize engagement by utilizing creative production techniques while adhering to best practices in instructional design and experiential learning for academic and educational materials.

Production  

  • Production design of studio and on-location sets, including props, furniture, and overall aesthetics.
  • Scout on location sites to film scripted scenarios, panel discussions, or stand-up.
  • Creates, pitches, and develops rich, engaging content for education-focused video productions.
  • Conducts interviews, designates film crew roles, and manages postproduction for assigned topics, shooting, and editing for distribution on ARPBS multi-media platforms.
  • Produce original videos for storytelling from concept to final production.
  • Actively seeks and liaises between hosts, moderators, and other talents.
  • Assist with music selection and editorial decisions and collaborate with animators.
  • Set an example for thoughtful, creative leadership through innovative and resourceful practices.

Creative Development  

  • Develop and create compelling production design concepts to inform, educate, engage, and emotionally draw in the audience about the video subject matter(s).
  • Script and produce video production through postproduction editing from short-form to long-form content; highly organized and able to manage multiple projects.
  • Conceptualize innovative project ideas that promote engaging online video education for adult or children audiences.
  • Develop and create production design, storyboards, content, scripts, schedules, interview questions, and other creative content as needed.
  • Conduct pre-interviews to screen for talent and their ability to contribute to the project.
  • Evaluate project objectives and target audience, operating within program format and content to attain desired goals and staying within budget, time, and operational limitations.

Project Coordination

  • Recruit and schedule talent for video shoots according to the departments and the station’s policies and procedures.
  • Manage creative processes from concept blueprints to approvals and distribution/deliveries.
  • Coordinate production, shooting, and editing schedules.
  • Work closely with other producers and educators to ensure standards of excellence.
  • Manage multiple projects and tasks under tight timelines with urgency, prioritization, and execution against deadlines.
  • Work with marketing to prepare promotional materials and use social media to engage with audiences.
  • Ensure compliance with all underwriting requirements, any contractual obligations from Arkansas PBS, and all legal compliance for the production.
  • Update the Director with weekly project status reports through summaries, deadlines, and areas of struggle.
  • This position will ensure the project meets all deadlines and standards of quality set by Arkansas PBS under the guidance of the Director of Education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient with production design, hands-on scripting, and creating video content from conception to delivery.
  • Capable of handling creative and logistical production elements on multiple overlapping projects with accurate and timely results.
  • Strong general knowledge of current standards for digital and broadcast outputs.
  • Knowledge of broadcasting standards of FCC and PBS.
  • Proficient in production design and production processing from development, pre-production, production and post-production.
