Each year, it is our responsibility to reflect, remember and ensure that the stories of those who lived through one of history’s darkest chapters are never forgotten for Holocaust Days of Remembrance. At Arkansas PBS, we honor this solemn occasion through a rich collection of programs that explore the Holocaust and its legacy from deeply personal, historical and artistic perspectives. Whether through music, in-depth documentaries or survivor testimonies, these stories offer more than remembrance – they offer connection, education and the power of resilience.

"Quiz Bowl": Forty Years of Knowledge and Competition

Forty years of "Quiz Bowl"? That’s right, and this year we are celebrating all the years of scholarship and competition that has been an Arkansas PBS tradition since 1985.

The Arkansas Governor’s "Quiz Bowl” has allowed high school players across the state to display their knowledge in literature, math, science, history, art, music and economics. Teams from across the state compete for the chance to represent The Natural State in national tournaments.

Identical twin brothers Ernie and Earl Cates have been staples of the Fayetteville music scene for decades, blowing up to tour the world with Bob Dylan, The Band, Stephen Stills and more. Starting in the 1960s, the brothers released music through different record labels including Electra-Asylum and Atlantic Records. In 2007, the brothers and their band came to what was then known as the AETN studios to perform in front of an enthusiastic live studio audience as part of “AETN Presents.”

“The Buffalo River begins and ends in a wilderness. She was born in the Ozark Mountains springing from the hills and into rock-formed valleys, carved by weather in an ageless time,” actor Ray McKinnon narrates. “It is a river of firsts with a picturesque landscape like no other, meandering 148 miles through canyons and forest ‘til she empties into another river known as the White. Along the way is beauty that folks fought to preserve. ‘Save the Buffalo’ was the cry.

The 60-minute documentary film written and produced by Emmy Award winner Larry Foley takes viewers on a journey from Fayetteville’s humble beginnings to present-day life on “The Hill.”
